Key Cutting in Brixton

Brixton Locksmith cuts spare keys at your door across SW2 and SW9, 24 hours a day. Euro cylinders, mortice locks and nightlatches are all covered, and every copy is tested in the lock before we leave. Call or WhatsApp 07984 547185 to check your key type.

A spare key is one of the cheapest insurance policies a household can buy. One copy held by someone you trust turns a lost-key night into a phone call instead of a lockout.

We cut keys at your door — no trip to a shop, no waiting for a machine. Each copy is tested in the lock before we hand it over.

Which keys can you cut?

We cut keys for the locks you will find on most Brixton doors — euro cylinders, five-lever mortice locks, nightlatches and rim cylinders. Standard keys are cut while you wait, usually in a few minutes.

Some keys cannot be copied freely. Restricted and patented keys need proof of ownership or an authorisation card from the lock maker. If your key has a card or a code number, have it ready when you call. If you want to check a locksmith before booking, the Master Locksmiths Association lists locksmiths by area and explains how to choose one.

Why a good copy matters

A key copied from a worn original is a rough fit. It turns stiffly, wears the lock, and is more likely to snap. A copy cut from a good original — or cut fresh to the lock code — turns smoothly and lasts far longer.

That is why we test every copy in the lock before handing it over. If a copy does not turn cleanly, we recut it on the spot rather than send you away with a key that fights the lock.

Spare keys for the whole household

Most households need more than one spare: one for a partner, one for a trusted neighbour or family member, one for the cleaner or the dog walker. Cutting several at once is quick and cheaper than separate visits.

Landlords often need sets for new tenants, and letting agents need spares for contractors. We can cut sets during a lock change visit, so the new tenant has keys from day one.

What if there is no key to copy?

If every key is lost, the answer is usually a new lock with fresh keys, fitted during the same visit. In some cases a lock can be rekeyed instead, which keeps the existing hardware and changes the key that works it. If you have lost every key, our lost-keys page explains the steps in order.

Either way, you end the visit with working keys and a lock that only you can open. Call us and we will explain which option fits your lock.

Frequently asked questions

How much does key cutting cost in Brixton?

It depends on the key type. A standard door key costs less than a high-security or restricted key, which needs special blanks. You get a clear quote on the phone, and if several copies are cut in one visit the price per key is usually lower.

Can you cut a key from a photo?

No. A photo cannot capture the exact depths and spacing of the cuts, and a key cut from a guess will not work reliably. We need the original key, the lock, or the key code. If you have lost every key, we can fit a new lock and cut fresh keys.

How long does key cutting take?

A standard key takes a few minutes to cut and test. A set of several keys for a household takes a little longer, but it is still done in one visit. Restricted keys take longer because they need authorisation, so tell us about the key type when you call.

Can you copy a key that says do not duplicate?

Keys marked do not duplicate are usually restricted keys, and copying them needs proof of ownership or the authorisation card that came with the lock. We check the key first and explain what is needed. Standard keys without restrictions can be copied freely.

Do you cut keys for window locks and padlocks?

Yes. We cut keys for most window locks, padlocks and cabinet locks as well as door locks. Bring the key or the lock to the visit, or send a photo over WhatsApp first so we can confirm the blank is one we carry.
